Holiday Food: How To Avoid Over-Eating During the Holidays

The holiday are here and it’s time to eat!  Well, it’s also time to begin to watch what we eat.  With childhood obesity at an all time high and diabetes threating more and more Americans, we all need to be mindful of our diets during the holiday seasons.  So, here are some holiday eating tips from ScottCounseling.

Holiday Eating Tips We Can All Live By

  1. Plan before you eat: Before you hit the supermarkets, make a list.  Yes, check it twice!  As you enter the grocery store, stick to buying only what is on your list.  Avoid temptations.  The store knows your weak points!
  2. Put calorie reduced products in your mouth: Chew gum, drink water and munch on low calorie vegetables.  This will keep your stomach and mind free of hunger.  Put out fruits for the kids!
  3. Think big, but eat small portions: Take a little of this and a little of that.  Avoid large portions.  When it “all looks so good,” take one bite of everything, but that’s all.
  4. Feeling satisfied?: …then stop eating!  Sip on water if you are feeling the need to be food social- everyone else is eating and talking.
  5. Think fat and sugar free: Avoid the high calorie fat foods.  Buy and eat sugar free whenever possible.
