According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, over one million U.S. children are homeless on any given night. In 2005, it was determined that families with children are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population. This statistic accounts for almost 41% of the nation’s homeless.
Children under the age of 18 make up approximently 40% of the homeless population and 42% of homeless children are under the age of five. Homeless children go hungry more than twice as often as other children. And, almost one-third of low-income families do not have enough income to prepare three meals a day.
