Parenting children going back to school can bring about family stress.  This article will provide you, the parent, with some positive steps to take to ensure that child gets off on the right foot back to school.

Back To School Success Steps

  • Recognize that this is a stressful time for your child is going through. He or she are facing a lot changes with a new school year and having the basics  taken care of may eliminate unwanted stress.

While knowing that real beauty comes from the inside, it’s important for your teen to have new cloths to start the school year. You don’t have to go over board, but having an adequate wardrobe to start school will help with self-confidence. Take advantage of all of the back to school sales, everyone is having them.

  • Create some type of a family calendar orschedule.  Put it somewhere where it’s visible and easy to write on and change, erasable calendars work great. Put up events and appointments for the whole family to participate on.

This eliminates confusions on who is where and when and it helps everyone remember what they need to do.

  • Sit down and have a family meeting to discuss goals for the upcoming year. Write a list on what your child wants to accomplish, and ways you can help them. It might be nice to get involved and tell your child what you want to accomplish this year regarding their responsibilities, household chores or ways you may help them.

  • Continue to participate throughout the school year by pulling out the list and see what you have accomplished and what needs to be changed. Having a quarterly get together to see if things are on track is a good idea.

This is a really important one and probably the hardest to do for most families. Try to create a quiet, calm breakfast time, even if it’s for 15 minutes. This might be the time to set your intentions for the day as a family.

  • Even if it’s only 5 minutes, each of you take a minute and verbalize what you want to play out in your day and what you are grateful for. This just sets up the day, for you to walk through it with clearer consciousness.

  • Touch base with your child at least twice a week to check in on their schedule, homework, or things that might be up for them. This keeps you connected to him or her.

All of the tips will help curb the anxiety pumping through the house, and most importantly keep you connected to your teen and yourself.
